
William Norman “Shack” Shackelton

William Norman “Shack” Shackelton of Revere, formerly a life-long resident of Malden, passed away in the Spaulding Hospital in Cambridge, he was 51. Born on July 30, 1960, he was the son of Robert C. Shackelton and Carolyn (Hodgdon) (Shackelton) Topping. Shack was raised and educated in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School with the Class of 1977. Bill went on to attend Wentworth Institute of Technology for Bridge and Tunnel inspection. He took his knowledge and went to work for the State of Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, before the department became the Department of Transportation, where he was a construction inspector and oversaw the construction and safety of many of the state’s roadways and tunnels. Shack worked for the state for over twenty-five years before retiring about one year ago. He was a long-time member of the Freemasons within the Malden Lodge. Shack was also an associate member of the Italian-American Club of Revere as well as the Son’s of Italy of Revere. He served at one point as the Vice President of the Patriots Club of Revere. He had a passion for cars and motorcycles. He collected Hot Wheels cars and rode a Harley-Davidson bike. Shack loved his Harley and would ride everywhere. He always joined up and rode during Bike Week in Laconia, NH. He loved the outdoors. Shack was an avid golfer at one point but truly enjoyed his family’s home on Sunrise Lake in Middleton, NH. From boating, tubing, fishing, and just having a great time; Shack loved time spent on the lake with his family and friends. He was a devoted father to Amada and Billy and all their many friends throughout the years..
William is survived by his children, Amanda E. Shackelton and William N. Shackelton, Jr., both of Malden, his step-father Howard Topping of Malden, his father, Robert C. Shackelton and his wife Carolyn, of Wenham, his sister, Susan L. Bickford and her husband, Thomas of Malden, his loving companion, Susan Falzarano of Revere, his former wife, Susan (Gear) Shackelton of Malden as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
William was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn (Hodgdon) (Shackelton) Topping.
Visitation will be held in the Weir - MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden, on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 4 to 8 PM.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 11AM. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
